Abingdon Animal Medical Center is an AAHA-accredited hospital, meaning we meet—and often exceed—the highest standards in pet care. From patient treatment and facility cleanliness to medical records and staff training, our quality of care goes beyond basic requirements. This commitment extends throughout our entire clinic, including our boarding and grooming departments.

Q: What’s included with boarding?

A: You’re welcome to bring anything that helps your pet feel at home, but the only thing required is your pet’s medication. We provide everything else!

  • Food: Purina EN Gastroenteric (dry & wet) and Hill’s Science Diet chicken & barley wet food
  • Toys, treats, blankets, and bedding
  • Three walks daily in our fully fenced yard, complete with playtime and room for zoomies
  • Access to their outdoor kennel anytime staff is present

Q: What’s required to board?

A:

  • Dogs: Current on Rabies, Distemper with Lepto, and Bordetella vaccines, and a fecal exam
  • Cats: Current on Rabies, and Feline Distemper vaccines, and a fecal exam

These requirements help us maintain a clean and healthy facility.

Q: Can we check on our pet while they’re boarding?

A: Absolutely! You can call or text us anytime for updates—and we’re happy to send pictures.

Q: Do dogs interact with other dogs?

A: Dogs may see one another and walk past nearby kennels, but only one dog is allowed outside at a time (unless they’re from the same family). This helps ensure everyone’s safety, as you can never be 100% sure your pet and someone else’s will be besties.

Q: Do you offer day boarding?

A: Yes! If something comes up and you need to drop your pet off for a few hours, just give us a call. Day boarders receive all the same benefits as overnight guests.

Q: Is there staff overnight?

A: No overnight staff, but your pet will have a full day of love, attention, and play before settling in for a good night’s rest.

“I completely understand how hard it can be to leave your pet, but I promise—you’re more worried than they are! Many of our boarders are already heading down the hallway before their parents finish saying goodbye. Sometimes I truly think this is their vacation away from mom and dad! I have four dogs and a cat of my own, and I care for every pet here the same way I’d want mine cared for. I truly love what I do and am so thankful to our clients for trusting us with their babies.”
